H1B Cap Not Met

USCIS advised that as of April 27, 2009 it has received approximately 45,000 H1B petitions to be counted against the cap of 65,000.  The agency will continue to accept petitions until the cap has been  met.

It also announced that it has received 20,000 petitions to be counted towards the advanced degree cap of 20,000; so all future H-1B petitions that are submitted to USCIS will be subject to the annual limit of 65,000 H-1B visas.

 

TPS for Burundi Ends on May 2

USCIS announced last week that Temporary Protected Status for Burundian nationals terminates effective 12:01 am May 2, 2009.  The agency estimates that there are 20 to 30 individuals registered under the TPS designation for Burundi.  Individuals with no lawful immigration status before receiving TPS will revert to unlawful status on May 2, 2009.

US Embassy and Consulates Suspend Visa Processing Through May 6

The Department of State announced that is has suspended all non-essential cases at the US Embassy and all Consulates in Mexico through May 6, 2009.  The suspension of services follows the Centers for Disease Control announcement instructing US citizens to limit travel to Mexico.  The scheduling centers will call or email all applicants with appointments scheduled between April 27 and May 6, 2009 to reschedule for a later date.  Applicants may also call to reschedule their own appointments at 1-800-719-2525.
